Fundraising is required for immunotherapy, this is a new treatment for alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma which should protect against further development of the disease. Immunotherapy in adjuvant therapy of cancer patients who have exhausted all standard therapy possibilities in cancer treatment, is provided by N.N. Petrov National Medical Research Center of Oncology operating under the Ministry of Healthcare of Russia on a commercial basis in accordance with the regulated price list.
Treatment duration – 2 years.
Amount of money required for the treatment ~ $27000.

History of diagnosis and treatment

September 2017

During a school medical examination, a surgeon palpated an unknown mass in the soft tissues of the abdomen.

With a referral for hospitalization my son was sent to the regional medical center in Khabarovsk because there was no oncology department in our hometown (Komsomolsk-on-Amur).

October 2017

A mass removal surgery has been performed. Based on the histopathology report, Sergey was diagnosed with alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma of abdominal wall soft tissues on the left (pT3bN1M0).

9 high-dose chemotherapy cycles and 28 radiation therapy sessions were given in the same town - Khabarovsk.

January 2018

Cancer relapsed. Sergey was prescribed 2 cycles of chemotherapy and sent for surgery to D. Rogachev National Medical Research Center. Additional MRI and CT scans performed before the surgery, showed that a new tumor focus in the inguinal lymph node has developed. We tried to find oncological institutions in Moscow but were refused admission everywhere for various reasons.

Our last hope for help was N.N. Petrov National Medical Research Center of Oncology, so we contacted them and fortunately we were admitted, as a result several second-line chemotherapy cycles were given, followed by lymph node removal surgery.

November 2019 - October 2020

Adjuvant chemotherapy.

January 2021

MRI and CT scans were performed and a small mass in soft tissues on the left had been discovered.

February 2021

Complex tumor removal surgery was performed by G.I. Gafton.

March 2021

A Medical consilium was called, where Sergey was offered to undergo experimental treatment, since chemotherapy and radiation therapy are ineffective for this type of tumor.

To our regret, immunotherapy is not state-funded (not covered by a policy of obligatory medical insurance) and quotas are not allocated for it, and our family has exhausted financial resources over the past 3.5 years paying for our son’s treatment.
